Graduate Students: Clinical Placements
Dress Code for Clinicals
  1. You are expected to wear business-professional attire appropriate to the standards of the site you are in, a white lab coat (if appropriate-not usually used in pediatrics or mental health sites) and a UW School of Nursing nametag identifying you as a Nurse Practitioner graduate student. You should check with your site about their expectations before the quarter starts.

  2. Hair, jewelry and accessories must be worn in a manner where they do not fall onto the patient during examination and do not cause any safety risk to yourself and/or your patients.

  3. Dress codes for most clinical sites do not permit backless or open toed shoes in compliance with OSHA regulations.

Keep in mind that you represent the UW School of Nursing, and that every clinical site represents the potential of future employment as an NP.
