BSN Students: Evaluations - BSN Program Evaluation

In a continued effort to evaluate the quality and results of our programs we have instituted a formal program evaluation plan. Students and alumni are surveyed at multiple points in their involvement in their program of study. The plan also asks employers and colleagues of the School's graduate to evaluate student competencies.

The three main components of the generic BSN program evaluation include student progress, formative, and summative evaluation.

Components of BSN Program Evaluation:
1. Student Progress
  (1) Grades in Courses
  (2) Weekly level faculty meetings: connected teaching
  (3) Clinical evaluations every quarter: mid-term and final
  (4) Essentials Behaviors documented completed each quarter in clinical courses
  (5) Student-related issues discussion by BSNCC on quarterly basis
2. Formative Evaluation
  (1) Weekly faculty level meetings
  (2) BSNCC monthly meetings
  (3) BSNCC reports from level meetings and student representatives
  (4) Annual BSNCC retreat to review gaps and overlaps and other curricular issues
  (5) Course evaluations by students and peer faculty
3. Summative Evaluation
  (1) Curriculum changes brought to BSNCC and all faculty meetings as needed
  (2) Qualitative & quantitative program questionnaires: Current BSN students, alumni, and employers of alumni--View 2006-07 BSN Program Evaluation Summary (45 pages) as well as BSNCC Recommendations for Improvements (1 page)
  (3) End clinical evaluation for transition in practice course
  (4) NCLEX first time pass rate
