The School of Nursing has standards for Essential Qualifications of Candidates for Undergraduate
Admission and Continuance. Students must meet the program essentials in order to progress
satisfactorily. These essentials include academic performance, communication skills, behavioral/emotional
health, and professional conduct. Please review the
Essential Qualifications of Candidates for
Undergraduate Admission and Continuance.
The BSN Coordinating Committee monitors satisfactory progress of all BSN students. Satisfactory Progress
is defined as a 2.0 in all graded classes (see
University definition of low scholarship) or "Credit" in non-graded classes
AND meeting the criteria of the essential qualifications. If the committee is concerned that
a student is not making satisfactory progress in academic areas of the program or is not meeting
the essential qualifications, the committee reviews the situation and may set up appropriate
support systems and conditions for the student for the remainder of the program (see
The Warning Card: Notification to Student of
Unsatisfactory Progress). These systems and conditions may include regular tutoring,
counseling, advising appointments, repeating courses and/or a reduced program schedule. In some
instances a leave of absence and/or dismissal from the program is required. Students are
encouraged to seek support through Academic Services, as well as assistance and support from
the student counselor free of charge.
Students must receive a 2.0 and/or "credit" in all nursing courses and meet the essential
qualifications in order to graduate from the program.
