Searching and applying for TA/RA Positions

1. TA (teaching assistant) and RA (research assistant) positions offer students paid tuition and a stipend. In most positions, you help faculty with their teaching or research 20 hours per week. Some TA/RAs teach or hold review sessions, grade papers, proctor tests, attend class and take notes, update or create a Web page, or perform data collection and analysis.

2. To find out what TA/RA positions are available, ask your advisor, department chair, professors, and School staff. Some positions are advertised, some are not. Advertise yourself. You can send an email to faculty noting your skills, experience, and interest areas, post flyers, or put notes in mailboxes. Be creative.

3. Interviewing for the position: Give the interviewer a reason to hire you. For tips on successful interviewing, click here.
