UW School of Nursing Funding
The School of Nursing has limited funds available for student
scholarships and loans. Most of this support is determined by
student need. If you think you will want to considered for funding
from the School of Nursing be sure you have submitted a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or have renewed
one previously submitted (the priority deadline for FAFSA's
is typically February 28).
IN ADDITION, undergraduate and graduate students newly admitted
to the UW School of Nursing, must submit a School
of Nursing Financial Aid Application, if and when they
accept the offer of admission to the School. Submitting
this Financial Aid Application and a FAFSA
allows you to be automatically considered for all School of
Nursing funding for which you are eligible. Check the School of Nursing Financial Aid Criteria Information Sheet to assure that you understand eligibility and priorities for School of Nursing funding.
Continuing students who would like to be considered for
funding after their first year of enrollment should submit an updated FAFSA, check the School of Nursing Financial Aid Criteria Information Sheet to assure that they understand eligibility and priorities for School of Nursing funding and then submit a School of Nursing Financial Aid application by February 28th prior to the year for which they wish to be
considered for funding. Sources of funding include:
- Traineeships - Federal money may be awarded to
the School of Nursing for graduate students. Amount of funding
varies per year and may pay tuition with or without a
monthly stipend. Traineeships for specific areas of study
include the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Traineeship
for Occuptional Health Nursing students.
- School of Nursing Scholarship Funds - Money made
possible by gifts from the School's alumni and friends who
delight in knowing that their gifts have a personal impact.
Some undergraduate awards cover in-state tuition for one
academic year. Some tuition for graduate students is covered
as well.
- Pre- and Post-Doctoral
Training Programs/Fellowship Awards - Fund tuition
and/or stipends for PhD and post-doctoral students.
- Research and Teaching Assistantships - Priority
is given to doctoral students, who work 20 hours per week
in exchange for tuition waiver and health insurance coverage.
Some funding is available for masters students. Openings
will be posted via email to all eligible students.
- University of Washington School of Nursing graduate students
may be eligible for departmental funding. Submit
an approved proposal (PhD students) or project/thesis plan
(Master's students) to your department Chair. Funding is
limited.
