All Students: The Basics - HIPAA Training

All students in the School of Nursing must complete UW HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) training. The training is conducted individually via a secure Web site, and lasts approximately 90 minutes.

If you have previously completed HIPAA training through the VA, you should complete the VA HIPAA Waiver Form and return it to Academic Services to keep in your student file.

If you are unsure of whether or not you are HIPAA compliant or do not remember your log-in information, please click below to search our database. If you are not compliant, instructions will list what needs to be done in order for you to complete the training:

It is important to note that you may be required to take additional HIPAA modules at certain clinical sites. If you have already completed training at another site, please verify with Academic Services that what you have taken will cover the same information the UWMC training offers. We will also need a printed copy verifying your compliance to keep in your student folder.
