Quick Briefs

IN CASE OF AN EARTHQUAKE: DROP, COVER, and HOLD. Once the shaking stops, take your valuables and leave the building. Do not plan to return for the rest of the day. Do not return to the building until you have received an all-clear from someone official, such as a police officer, firefighter, or a SON Safety Warden (identified by the bright green baseball cap), or via the Web or e-mail. Call 547-INFO or check the UW home page for updates on UW and building status. If the building is closed for longer than one day and an alternate location has been found for this class, it will be communicated by the instructor via e-mail to all students.

IN CASE OF A FIRE ALARM: Take your valuables and leave the building. Plan to return to class once the alarm has stopped.

IF YOU ARE OFF-CAMPUS: You are responsible for learning agency policies in the case of natural disaster, fire, or other emergency. Other emergencies may arise that we cannot anticipate. Please carry the number of an out-of-state contact person with you, making sure that all family members have that number, too. Now would also be an excellent time to carry with you a personal disaster kit. Many options are offered through the American Red Cross at this website.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: This policy is used when the University is in operation, but an individual employee requests time off to deal with unanticipated problems related to severe weather conditions or natural disasters. See: http://www.washington.edu/admin/hr/pol.proc/susp.ops/inclement.weather.html

This policy is used when University officials temporarily suspend operations, requiring only employees in "essential" positions to report to work. See: http://www.washington.edu/admin/hr/pol.proc/susp.ops/suspend.operations.html

Homeland Security: Information on the current national threat level can be found at:http://www.whitehouse.gov/homeland/

This site is intended to be a useful resource for faculty, students and staff. If you have any comments or suggestions, please e-mail them to Patrick Tufford.
