In Phase II we plan to implement the CAST Training Model taking steps toward creating both a training and school-based infrastructure. We will 1) produce a team of eight certified CAST Trainers, 2) create and evaluate training materials for CAST Coordinators and administrators, and 3) train CAST Leaders, Coordinators and administrators. Importantly, we will test the efficacy of the CAST Leader Training, explicated in the CAST Trainer Guide, as measured by indicators of implementation readiness. CAST Leader Training has as a central focus the acquisition of leader behaviors necessary for skills training and building group support. Thus, implementation readiness can best be examined by behavioral observations related to skills training and group building behaviors, as well as CAST knowledge gains and attitudes toward CAST fundamental principles. We will use a randomized, wait-list control design and hypothesize that CAST Training participants compared to wait-list controls will reveal greater implementation readiness on 4 indices i.e., CAST Leader trainees vs. wait-list controls will show higher: Aim 1: Percentages of critical elements covered (dose) with greater quality
of delivery (competence); Aim 2: Levels in fostering group belonging when expected; and Aim 3: Levels of promoting skills training when expected. Aim 4: We will also examine the effects of five independent variables on implementation readiness: (1) trainee attitude toward the CAST conceptual model; (2) the need for continued training/supervision; trainee score on (3) Leader hiring criteria met; (4) assessments of the training manuals/resources; and (5) evaluation of CAST training. |
