Helping Her Heal:
A Program for Spouses of Women with Breast Cancer
Nurses at the University of Washington School of Nursing are studying the effectiveness of an educational program for spouses/partners of women recently diagnosed with breast cancer. This program is available at no charge.
The Helping Her Heal Program offers spouses/partners:
- Five sessions at two-week intervals by a patient educator who is specially trained in working with family members including the spouse/partner.
- An opportunity to learn new ways to help themselves and their wife/partner with breast cancer get through the experience with less distress and concerns.
Spouses/partners are eligible to participate if they are:
- Married to or in a committed, partnered relationship with a woman who is:
- Diagnosed with Stage 0, I, II, or III breast cancer
(local or regional involvement)
- Within 6 months of her first diagnosis of breast cancer
- Living in the Puget Sound area
- Able to speak and read English
