Introduction

The CHIRP interest group consists of faculty, staff and students from multiple disciplines who share a desire to promote health informatics research that is relevant to emerging methods of patient self-care and patient-centered provider services.

Improved Research

CHIRP contributes to the evaluation of new health informatic systems and interventions such as the Personal Patient Profile - Prostate (P4). (D. Berry PI)

The P4 program was created to help the patient make "the best choice" concerning his treatment for prostate cancer. There is a growing body of evidence that men with localized prostate cancer make decisions about the cancer by considering personal characteristics and factors such as one's occupation and who one knows who has had cancer. Such decisions are challenging and often stressful. The P4 study will develop and evaluate a personal, tailored, Internet-based decision-making process for management of localized prostate cancer.
