Port Gamble S'klallam and Suquamish are two western Washington reservation sites located on the Kitsap peninsula. We have had students in that site for over 12-13 years. This site offers opportunities to work in maternal child health, chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer. We are also supporting the tribe in education transitions for youth and also offer opportunities to gain a greater understanding of elder health concerns. This is a rural site that can be easily accessed by ferry in about 45 minutes. In this work, we explore health care concerns for Indian people, cultural issues in health promotion and also issues in health policy and health services delivery in rural communities and within sovereign nations. As the clinical instructor, I work in the site directly with students and provide support and supervision.
