Individuals or small groups (up to six) may wish to visit the University of
Washington School of Nursing for a few days to learn about its educational
and research programs. Meetings can be arranged with faculty with expertise
in specific areas, subject to the schedules and availability of the individual
faculty members. The School of Nursing requests that visitors pay a fee of $50
(payable by check or money order - no cash) per person per day for such visits.
Because of limited space and time, we cannot accommodate groups of more than
six individuals.
In order to plan your visit, please contact
Sarah Ross a minimum of two (2) months beforehand. Please give details about the proposed
dates of your visit, the objectives of your visit, specific kinds of information you are
seeking, and individuals you would like to meet. The School
of Nursing web site has descriptions of academic programs, course listings, faculty
biographies and other information that will be useful to review as background to help you
plan your visit.
It is not possible for the School of Nursing to arrange visits to clinical sites such as
hospitals and clinics. Although the School of Nursing and many local hospitals and clinics are all
affiliated with our units of the University of Washington, they are all separately administered.
International visitors who want to tour or observe local healthcare facilities should contact
those facilities directly. Many healthcare institutions currently find it difficult to accommodate
clinical observations for visitors because of the heavy workload of the nursing staff, space
limitations, HIPAA patient privacy regulations and immunization regulations for persons in
contact with patients.
In considering dates for your visit, please keep in mind that many faculty members are not
on campus during the summer (mid-June through mid-September). Virtually all faculty members are on
summer break from August 25th until October 1st and during the last two weeks of December, so it
is not possible to arrange any visits at those times.
