Staff Fellowship

Staff Endowed Fellowship in Nursing
Criteria

Congratulations to Ashley Wiggin,

The 2008-2009 Recipient of the

Staff Endowed Fellowship in Nursing!

Purpose of this endowment is to provide financial assistance to School of Nursing staff that are enrolled in a Washington State-funded higher education program at the University of Washington.

  • This fellowship will go to help SoN staff members continue their education or to a SoN student studying health disparities, community health, geriatrics, mental health, oncology or public health, if no staff member can be found.
  • Distributions should be used for the purchase of books, lab fees, and tuition not covered under the State’s tuition exemption program, (should not be used for individual, non-matriculated classes).  Funding may also be awarded for other related educational expenses including travel, conference fees which pertain to the student’s education, degree or research related to the student’s degree.  If a student needs to take a course not offered by the UW, but student is enrolled in a UW program, the funding may be used to enroll in a class at a local community college (or for use of other community college expenses).
  • Duration of the fellowship shall normally be for one academic year.  Provided that a recipient has made acceptable progress toward his or her degree, a fellowship may be awarded for successive years.  Failure of the student to remain in good academic standing or to make satisfactory progress toward a degree may result in withdrawal of the fellowship.
  • Distributions from the endowment shall be awarded and expended under the guidelines stated above.  When accumulated funds are sufficient for more than one fellowship, two or more recipients may be selected.
  • In any year in which there are not qualified applicants, the selection criteria may be expanded so long as endowment distribution continue to directly support students and criteria shall adhere as closely as possible to the donor’s original intent.
