Research: Dr. Landis's program of research focuses on sleep and health consequences of disturbed sleep. She has conducted both basic-science and clinical interdisciplinary studies of altered sleep patterns in an animal model of arthritis, sleep deprivation effects on thermoregulation, pain, wound healing, immune function, and descriptive studies of neuroendocrine and EEG biomarkers of nonrestorative sleep in women with fibromyalgia. Recently she completed a clinical trial of valerian effects on sleep in older women with insomnia and a sleep study of children with juvenile arthritis. Currently she is Co-investigator with the coordinating center for a multi-site study evaluating treatments to reduce hot flashes and improve sleep in menopausal and post-menopausal women and Co-Director for the Biobehavioral Tools Core for the University of Washington Center for Research on Management of Sleep Disturbances. She also serves as Director for the NINR funded institutional Biobehavioral Health Training Grant for predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows.
Teaching: Dr. Landis enjoys teaching about sleep, the health consequences of sleep loss and ways to improve sleep. She also enjoys challenging and working with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to enhance their critical thinking and research skills.
Service: She is a past member of the Nursing Science Adult and Older Adult Study Section and currently serves on the Nursing Clinical Resarch Study Section for NIH/CSR. She is an associate editor for the SLEEP. She is currently chair of School of Nursing faculty council and serves on the Senate Faculty Council for Faculty Affairs.
