Mary Baird has practiced as an adult nurse practitioner in a general neurology office in Olympia for the past six years. In this setting she manages patients with acute and chronic neurological disorders. Her practice includes patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's, dystonias and tremors; demyelinating disease such as multiple sclerosis; dementing illnesses including multi-infarct and Alzheimer's disease; vascular diseases, infections and tumors of the central nervous system; paroxysmal disorders including seizures and migraine; and patients with diseases of the spine.
Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner Mary worked as a clinical nurse specialist for eight years in neurology and neurosurgery where her focus was head injury and head injury rehabilitation. She has published on the subjects of neural development and cortical function, acute disorders of brain function and the cognitive consequences of brain injury.
Mary teaches the clinical seminar series for acute care nurse practitioners, diagnostic reasoning, physical assessment, and advanced practice in neuroscience nursing.
