Cynthia Price, PhD, LMP
Research Assistant Professor

Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems
357266
University of Washington
Seattle, WA 98195

Email Address: cynthiap@u.washington.edu

Research: Dr. Price’s program of study is in the area of body psychotherapy. She has developed and is studying an intervention protocol that combines touch, mindful awareness, and emotional processing. Intervention studies have focused on body-oriented therapy for women in recovery from sexual abuse trauma, including female veterans with PTSD. These studies have combined quantitative and qualitative methods. Dr. Price is interested in the role of body awareness in health and healing – specifically as it relates to dissociative strategies to cope with stress, pain, and chronic mental and physical conditions. She has developed a scale of body awareness and bodily dissociation for use in mind-body research.
Clinical Experience: Dr. Price is a licensed massage therapist and has a Masters degree in Counseling/Psychology. In clinical practice for 17 years, she combined bodywork with psychotherapeutic process and taught advanced practice seminars in bodywork for trauma recovery.
Service: Dr. Price serves on the research review committee for the Massage Therapy Foundation and the abstract review committee for the American Public Health Association Alternative and Complementary Health Practices Special Interest Group. She volunteers as a practitioner and is on the Steering Committee of the Alternative Healthcare Access Campaign (AHAC), a non-profit Seattle organization that provides CAM therapies to people who are homeless and low income.
