Dr. Dobra has a joint appointment with the Department of Statistics and is also a core member of the Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences. He contributes with research and education at the interface of social science and statistics. He has developed novel theory, methodology and efficient algorithmic approaches for statistical analysis of combined high-throughput genomic data, genetic and sequence information as well as other clinical and biomedical information. Dr. Dobra has extensive expertise in high-performance parallel computing that is a key aspect in the efficient processing of complex, high-dimensional datasets. His expertise is in sparse statistical modeling of gene expression data, where issues related to model uncertainty and variable selection, ANOVA and latent factor models, missing data frameworks, together with parallel, cluster-based, stochastic computational methods and optimization techniques are paramount.
Dr. Dobra has done his graduate work at Carnegie Mellon University and has joined University of Washington after spending five years at Duke University as a postdoctoral fellow and research-track faculty.
