Research: Dr. Doorenbos’ area of research is the end of life experience, including symptom management and advance care planning, especially among elderly. She also is seeking greater understanding of the dynamics of culturally competent end-of-life care from both provider and patient perspectives.
Teaching: Teaching provides Dr. Doorenbos the opportunity to share her passion for end of life and research issues with graduate students. Her teaching has included a course on survey research methods and an interdisciplinary course on end-of-life issues.
Service: Dr. Doorenbos is active in the Oncology Nursing Society. She consults with nurses in Ethiopia, Kenya, India, Japan, and Korea on end of life nursing issues. Being an active member of the International Council of Nursing Project on Dignified Dying brings together her scholarly focus on cultural differences in end of life, with her consulting activities in various countries.
