Research: Dr. Thompson’s program of research has focused on improving outcomes from traumatic brain injury. She has used translational approaches, including animal models in the process of developing evidence-based protocols for the care of the brain-injured patient. She is presently conducting several studies to examine factors influencing outcome following traumatic brain injury in older adults.
Teaching: Dr. Thompson teaches in both the undergraduate and doctoral nursing programs at the University of Washington. She also guest lectures in areas related to geriatric nursing, neuroscience, and methodology.
Service: Dr. Thompson serves as the Editor of the American Association of Neuroscience Nursing’s Clinical Reference Series. She is a member of the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation Grant Review Panel and reviews regularly for journals such as: Critical Care Medicine, Journal of Advanced Nursing, Research in Gerontological Nursing, and American Journal of Critical Care.
