Dr. Jesurum is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems, is clinical faculty in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Adult Nurse Practitioner Programs, and is the Scientific Director of the Swedish Heart and Vascular Institute in Seattle. She maintains an active cardiology clinical practice at Swedish Heart and Vascular Clinic and focuses on the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and complex cardiac risk factor reduction. She is the Co-Director of Science, Innovation, and Synergy: an annual comprehensive educational venue in Seattle that features a renowned international faculty focusing on the latest advancements and state of the science for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac, peripheral vascular and neurovascular disease. Additionally, she serves as a consultant for medical device companies focusing on the treatment of structural cardiac disease and invasive hemodynamic monitoring. Since 2003, her program of research has focused on the heart-brain connection, specifically the connection between cryptogenic stroke, migraine and patent foramen ovale. In longitudinal projects, she has investigated the effect of transcatheter closure of patent foramen ovale, a defect of the interatrial septum, on recurrent stroke and migraine sypmtoms.

Currently, she is the principal investigator on the following funded projects:

Response to Aspirin in Migraineurs (RAM)

Cerebral Vasomotor Reactivity and Blood Flow Distribution in Migraineurs with Right-to-Left Shunt (CVRD)

Cognitive Dysfunction in Migraineurs with Aura and Patent Foramen Ovale

Unilateral vs. Bilateral Monitoring of Right-to-Left Shunt with Power M-Mode Transcranial Doppler
