Cynthia Perry is a board certified family nurse practitioner, entering into nursing practice at the graduate level. She obtained her BA in anthropology from Northwestern University, MSN from Yale School of Nursing, and PhD from Oregon Health & Science University.
Throughout her career Dr. Perry has worked with communities in order to improve the health of communities. Dr. Perry’s research is aimed at prevention of chronic disease through the promotion of physical activity. Predominantly she works with underserved and disenfranchised populations that have historically been omitted from clinical research and are at high risk for chronic illness. She uses a community-based participatory research approach and has developed community-academic partnerships in the communities where she conducts her research projects.
Dr. Perry has practiced as a family nurse practitioner in a variety of settings, including rural health. Currently she practices (locum tenens) at the Ilanka Community Health Center in Cordova, Alaska. She teaches in the women’s health care nurse practitioner specialty. As a member of the DNP Curriculum Coordinating Committee, Dr. Perry is involved in developing and implementing the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at UW School of Nursing.
