Dr. Cathy Lindenberg is Associate Professor, Department of Family and Child Nursing. She is a nursing and public health educator, researcher, and consultant with extensive national and international experience in maternal child health. She grew up in Costa Rica, received her bachelors degree at Case Western Reserve, her MSN and MPH at Yale University, and her Dr.P.H. at Johns Hopkins University. She has subsequently spent over 15 years working in international public health in Latin America. As a World Health Organization and freelance public health and nursing consultant, she has worked in 14 countries and been involved in numerous educational, service delivery, and evaluation/research projects throughout Latin America.

In the USA she has served as Director of Faculty Research and Development at the University of Massachusetts in Boston and as Chair of the Division of Women & Children at Emory School of Nursing in Atlanta. Research/evaluation efforts have focused primarily nutrition, breast-feeding, and most recently on substance use and risky sexual behavior prevention with predominantly low-income Latina young women. Dr. Lindenberg is currently an Associate Professor, Department of Family and Child Nursing, University of Washington. She is the PI on the program of research entitled: "Resilience and Risk: Preventing Substance Use and Risky Sexual Behaviors Among Minority Young Women" for which she has been awarded a number of internal and external grants. Numerous publications describe Dr. Lindenberg and her colleague's work. Currently Dr. Lindenberg is developing a program of research in partnership with SEA MAR, a Seattle area HMO serving 40,000 members through its network of six health centers. SEA MAR's population is 54% Hispanic. She teaches both at the graduate and undergraduate levels in areas of health promotion, family nursing, and theory and research methods.
