My research studies focus on pain relief using a multidimensional, interdisciplinary perspective and a partnership approach with the person living with pain. Our data sets include self-report and observational data from more than 400 people living with cancer pain. These data provide a rich resource for students interested in pain, symptom management, or specific analytic techniques.
I teach pain assessment and management at all levels of the curriculum, oncology, and behavioral observation methods for graduate students.
I am involved with numerous local and national initiatives to improve care to people facing the transition at the end of life. Also my public service extends throughout the world, focused on improving pain relief around the globe.
