Research: Dr. Whitney studies tissue repair in acute and chronic wounds. Her program of research focuses on clinical interventions designed to influence tissue oxygen, perfusion and temperature and test their effects on molecular, biochemical and clinical wound healing outcomes. Additional research interests include studies focusing on maintaining health and promoting recovery through physical activity.
Teaching: Dr. Whitney teaches wound evaluation and management to undergraduate and graduate students. She teaches and mentors graduate students and nurses in practice in research methods, thesis and dissertation work. She directs the Adult, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program, and is the faculty liason for the UW Wound Management Education Program and Ostomy Management Program.She is Co-director for the NIH sponsored Biobehavioral Nursing Research Training Program.
Service: Dr. Whitney is active in the Wound Healing Society, and the Wound, Ostomy and Continence and Nurses Society (WOCN). She serves as a board member for the WHS and Feature Editor for the Journal of WOCN.
