NEST (Nurse
Educator Specialist Training) Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Practice Nursing
Program
Overview
The Nurse Educator Specialist Training (NEST) Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Practice Nursing offers both Master-prepared RN's as well as currently matriculated graduate students in the School of Nursing an opportunity to complete a certificate program of study on the nurse educator role. This program provides a collaborative, integrative, and multidisciplinary educational framework that is intended to produce, support and mentor nurses to assume roles as nurse educators certificate completion.
Advanced nursing courses taken concurrently with NEST courses assist students in expanding their knowledge of how practice expertise frames and supports teaching / learning concepts, curriculum, philosophies, methodologies and activities. NEST mentors oversee individual student educator objectives to facilitate each student's development of personal framework for teaching and learning. Students individualize their program to meet their specific goals.
The NEST Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Practice Nursing requires a minimum of 20 credits and is designed to be completed in 4 consecutive quarters. Flexibility is built in so that currently matriculated students' requirements in other courses can be used as a basis for fulfilling some of the practicum/course requirements for the NEST. In addition, students involved in distance learning may fulfill practicum requirements at their home site under a NEST Faculty Mentor.

You can take courses as a graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student prior to applying for enrollment. This is an opportunity for nurses who are considering the NEST Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Practice Nursing to sample coursework prior to enrolling. Up to 12 credits of courses taken as a GNM can be applied to the NEST Graduate Certificate Program in Advanced Practice Nursing. GNM students register for courses on a space-available basis. For more information about GNM status, call 1-800-759-NURS. Acceptance as a GNM student does not guarantee admission to a graduate certificate program.
