Degree Programs: MS Costs and Financial Aid

Click here for current Master of Science tuition rates. These will be under Graduate Tuition Tier Definitions--Tier I.

Graduate Service Appointments
The University offers a number of graduate service appointments (e.g. Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, Fellowships, Traineeships). Such appointees (both domestic and international) receive full tuition waivers as well as health insurance coverage for themselves and their dependents.

In addition, non-resident domestic students who do not hold graduate service appointments but who are in their second or later year of enrollment, may be eligible to qualify for residency or they may be awarded a non-resident tuition waiver, thereby allowing them to pay in-state tuition.

Additional Expenses
In addition to tuition and living expenses, approximate costs for other items in the master's programs are: thesis preparation - $800; books and supplies - $1200; one-time student health fee - approximately $300; clinical course fees when students use consumables (variable--$15-$80 per course); and transportation - variable. Some financial aid is available to eligible students through the University and School. Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA) is required for most of the aid administered through the University. Priority filing date is February 28. Research and teaching assistantships are available for some students providing work with faculty on active research grants and other educational activities.

Residency
While the University of Washington recently modified its tuition residency policy so as to hold students to a stricter level of scrutiny, it is still committed to actively recruiting graduate and professional students from throughout the nation and the world, and to continuing to provide competitive recruitment packages.
