Practice Characteristics
Advanced Practice Community Health Systems Nursing graduates
are prepared to:
- Assess the health status and determinants of community
health including demographic trends, cultural, psychosocial,
economic, political, ethical, and spiritual factors.
- Examine the lived experiences of others are reflected
in their language, images and symbols in order to better
understand groups and communities within the context of
their lives.
- Apply concepts from nursing science and the natural, behavioral
and public health sciences in analyzing health needs and
resources for communities, and selected aggregates and high
risk populations within communities.
- Promote and establish community partnerships that recognize
the importance of capacity building and advocacy as means
to improved social and health conditions.
- Develop leadership and management skills in order to achieve
effectiveness in the mobilization of resources and the sustainable
development of communities.
- Evaluate the quality of outcomes of community health nursing
programs and interventions according to developed criteria
and in relation to the sociocultural, political, legal and
economic forces that influence care in the community.
Certifications
All Advanced Practice Community
Health Systems Nursing students can apply for American
Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) Clinical Specialist in Community
Health Nursing Certification. Additionally, Occupational
Health students can become certified as Occupational Health
Nurse Specialists (COHN-S) through the American
Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN), and Cross-Cultural
Nursing students may apply for the Transcultural
Nursing Society's Transcultural Nursing certification.
