As a service to applicants to the School of Nursing, this page will feature frequent postings
with up-to-the-minute information about this year's admissions process. Applicants
are encouraged to check here regularly for updates, or you can subscribe at the bottom of this page
to receive updates within 24 hours of their addition. Due to the volume of applications we receive,
we are not able to respond to phone, email, or in-person inquiries regarding individual applications.
MEPN and GEPN application notifications will be mailed in December. Your patience is very much appreciated.

Our admit and waitlist letters are in the mail as of this afternoon (actual letters this time!). This means that they'll be picked up and on the way to you tomorrow morning. Let me hear if you don't receive anything in the next week or so.
If admitted, you'll have until March 28 to decide if you're coming. Until then, get in touch with questions and take your time with the decision.
If waitlisted, you will remain on the list until a space becomes available or until classes begin.
Everyone should continue to work on their prerequisite courses and take care of any outstanding commitments. Thanks for applying.

I seem to have left out some important information in regards to the lunch sessions that I mentioned yesterday.
No RSVP is required for these sessions. Simply show up to the session that will be most convenient to you. Unfortunately, this will simply be a discussion session. We won't actually have food to serve, but you're welcome to brown-bag it if you like. There are also several on-campus cafes and restaurants (not to mention the places in the University district).

As interview time approaches, I have a few quick suggestions to help you prepare and to give you some activities for your time on campus.
Many of you have asked about the appropriate level of dress for the interview. I'd suggest business casual - the equivalent of going on a job interview, perhaps.
I've also heard a few requests for campus tours and other activities. The University offers a daily tour of the campus at 10:30 and 2:30. This is a decent way to familiarize yourself with the UW if you've never been on campus before, and your interview schedule should allow you to make at least one of these sessions if you're willing to hang around campus long enough. See http://admit.washington.edu/Visit/GuidedTour for details and locations.
In addition, we've arranged lunch sessions with nursing faculty, staff, and students on each day of the interviews. The session on Monday the 7th will take place from 11:30 -12:30. All other days, Tuesday the 8th through Friday the 11th, will be from 12:00-1:00. All sessions take place in room T-404 of the Health Sciences building (stop by the main nursing office in T-310 if you need directions). Now, this is the first week of the new quarter, so scheduling is a little odd. This means that I won't always have someone there from all programs, but I'll try to make it worth your time if you come.
Good luck, and we'll see you next week

As I mentioned before, the interview will be focused less on your resume qualifications (healthcare experience, leadership, international work, etc.) than your communication and interpersonal skills. Don't be surprised if the faculty interviewers don't ask you about anything from your application. In order to keep the process as uniform as possible, we'll actually follow a script with the interview questions.
We'll be looking at your ability to express your ideas verbally in a pretty stressful situation. You will also be presented with a healthcare scenario (nothing that you'll have to have any specific nursing knowledge to assess) and asked to propose a course of action if you were the acting nurse. You'll repeat the healthcare scenario as a group with the other interviewers. In all cases, we're looking at how you interact with a group of peers and how well you can examine many potential aspects of the issue.

Our initial decision letters and interview invitations are in the mail as of this afternoon. Be sure to look for them, and contact Patrick Tufford (ptufford@u.washington.edu) if your letter does not arrive in the next few days or if you have any questions.
If you've been invited to an interview, watch this space in the weeks between now and January 7. I'll try to post a few interview tips. For now, please understand that these interviews will be less about your past experience and qualifications (the focus of our initial file review) than about how you express yourself verbally in a stressful situation and how well you interact in groups.

If you are invited to a MEPN/GEPN interview, you will need to be available during the week of January 7-11. Please contact the Academic Services office if this will not be possible. We expect to have our initial decision/interview invitation letters on the way in early December.

The Academic Services office has begun to process the recently arrived MEPN/GEPN applications. Here's a rough timeline of when you might expect to hear more about your progress: Application packets will be reviewed by the faculty throughout November. Expect to receive initial decisions/interview invitations in mid-December. In early January we will conduct our group interviews. We will have final admissions decisions shortly after interviews are complete.
