I am currently a Professor in the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health at the University of Washington School of Nursing. My area of specialty is occupational and environmental health nursing. I served as the Director of the School of Nursing's Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing (OEHN) Program from 1989 until 2003. The OEHN program is one of 15 programs in the country that are funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). In the School of Nursing, it is a specialty option within Advanced Practice Community Health Systems Nursing (APCHSN). We also offer a study option for nurse practitioner students.

Much of my research focuses on health behavior and health protection, particularly among working populations. My most recent research is focused on agricultural workers, particularly Hispanic migrant workers. I am also interested in evaluation studies. I am currently working with an interdisciplinary team to develop an evalaution plan for a community-based participatory action research project in the Yakima Valley. In recent years, I have conducted 2 large evaluation studies, one for the State of Washington Department of Labor and Industries, and another within the nuclear weapons complex for the U.S. Department of Energy.
