I am a psychiatric nurse with doctoral preparation in social psychology. My research interests include both individual-level and program-level considerations with community-residing adults who have serious and persistent mental illnesses, particularly schizophrenia. My second interest is the effectiveness (and also the cost effectiveness) of treatment packages provided to seriously and persistently mentally ill persons receiving treatment from mental health agencies with state contracts to provide mental health care for this population. In preparation for research on the outcomes of public sector services for people with serious mental disorders, I am currently studying the structure and operation (including external influencing conditions) of an affiliated provider network serving a 5-county region.
I am also co-PI of a study evaluating the efficacy of a multifamily group intervention for families with an adolescent showing signs of serious mental illness.
A recent teaching accomplishment was the development (with two colleagues) of a Web-based teaching-learning case focused on an adolescent with emerging psychotic symptoms and his family. Major teaching-learning goal was to foster in learners the skill of contextualized, multifaceted clinical reasoning during assessment, intervention, and treatment evaluation.
