Dr. Walsh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health. She is an ANCC Certified Clinical Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. She obtained her Doctorate in Nursing from the University of Washington in 1999.
Her research interests include suicide-risk behavior and drug involvement among adolescents and young adults, as well as implementation and evaluation of school- and community-based prevention programs for youth. Dr. Walsh’s current research includes partnering with school districts to implement suicide prevention programs.
Dr. Walsh has extensive experience working with youth and families in hospital, school, and community settings. She worked in inpatient psychiatry at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital, where she also served as an instructor and hospital-wide consultant in the prevention and management of assaultive behavior. As a research scientist and project director with the Reconnecting Youth Prevention Research Program at the University of Washington, Dr. Walsh coordinated implementation and evaluation of programs designed to prevent school dropout, suicide, and drug abuse. This involved working with students, parents, teachers, school and district administrators, and community members to implement programs for high-risk youth.
