My primary interests are focused around the FNP role, practice characteristics, education, and political advocacy. I am interested in clinical decision making, health promotion and the NP role related to STD/HIV prevention.
I coordinate the FNP option in the Post-Master's program and oversee almost all of the administrative aspects of the day-to-day operations. Coordinating the program includes hiring faculty, student admission and advising, teaching in the program, coordination of placements with the Clinical Coordinator, budget development and monitoring, working with Extension.
During the past year I have been involved in 2 studies. The first study is an interdisciplinary study through Batelle Research Center and is funded by NIMH. We are studying health maintenance visits in primary care settings, specifically looking at clinicians' integration of M and HIV risk assessment in the routine evaluation of new patients. This study compares NP practice with that of 3 physician groups: family practice physicians, OB/GYN physicians, and internists. I serve as a co-investigator on the project.
