I am an Adult Nurse Practitioner with special interests in health promotion and risk reduction for older adult populations, and in working with debilitated older persons and their families. I am also interested in designing and providing appropriate teaching tools for clinical use, applying the principles of adult learning and health literacy. I currently practice as a primary care provider in a multidisciplinary internal medicine practice where I get to see a full spectrum of adult ages. I deal with a broad spectrum of health maintenance and chronic and acute illness.
The use of simulated patients, computer simulations and web-based teaching formats to enhance student learning fascinates me. I have the opportunity to apply these educational tools with students in the Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychosocial Mental Health Nurse Practitioner graduate pathways.
Recent publications and presentations include: “Using Web Based Cases for Problem Based Learning”, “Distance Learning Modalities” as a part of a Symposium on “Rural Expansion of an Urban Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program”, “Case-based teaching and learning experiences”, “Incorporating standardized patients into a psychosocial nurse practitioner program”.
