Activities: Chew & Chat

CHEW & CHAT: Last year, the Diversity Task Force began an informal lunchtime discussion series on diversity issues as seen through the lens of culture and media representations. We read an article or book, watch a video or listen to a recording before we gather, and then come together to talk about what we've gotton from it (or missed, perhaps??)

Come to our next Diversity Task Force meeting and help us decide what to focus on for the next Chew & Chat. We're looking for something on the topic "Faith & Controversy in Nursing".

Past sessions have included discussions on:

  • Black in Seattle: Readers weigh in on whether Seattle is a good place for a black person to live [Seattle Times article]
  • Lesbian & Gay Nurses [Book chapters]
  • Smoke Signals [Sherman Alexi film]
  • The Production of Whiteness in Education: International Students in a College Classroom [student paper]

WHERE & WHEN:

Thursday, December 4: 12:00-1:30, T-513
Watch the PBS video: Two Towns of Jasper

Thursday, December 11: 12:00-1:00, T-513
Follow-up discussion of video: Two Towns of Jasper

In 1998 in Jasper, Texas, James Byrd, Jr., a black man, was chained to a pick-up truck and dragged to his death by three white men. Two film crews, one black and one white, set out to document the aftermath of the murder in Two Towns of Jasper.

Check back here for additional meeting dates and times when future Chats are scheduled..

All PCH faculty, students, and staff are welcome to attend.
