WA State DOH New License Verification Database
As of April 11, 2007, Washington joined a nationwide database run by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. It is an unduplicated database that contains nurse licensing and disciplinary information. It is provided by boards of nursing available to other boards of nursing for purposes of evaluating new applicants for licensure by endorsement. This system is called Nursys(r) and for one flat fee of $30 a nurse can have his or her licensure information made available to all 37 participating states at once.
Prior to participating in this process, when moving, a nurse had to pay each state where he/she has been licensed to have the paper license verification form completed and mailed to the new state. Now it can be done with one fee and with speedy service to the new state.
Nurses may access this form electronically on the website at: http://www.nursys.com and download the license verification instructions. As long as the states they were previously licensed in are listed on this form, one fee will cover the license verification process for all of those states. Payment can be done by credit card or by mail. We hope you will be able to share this information with any nurses you may work with."
