Evacuation Procedures
There are no unannounced drills. All alarms must be heeded. If you choose not to evacuate, you may face fines from the Seattle Fire Department.
General Evacuation Information
- Evacuate the building in a calm and orderly fashion using the nearest exit.
- In the event of an earthquake, do not evacuate until shaking has stopped. Once the quake subsides, evacuate via the nearest exit.
- If you encounter smoke or the exit is blocked, try another escape route.
- If you have to escape through smoke, crawl on your hands and knees and keep your head low where the air is the cleanest.
- Always use stairs...do not use elevators!
- Take personal belongings (keys, purses, wallets, etc.) as you may not be able to access to the building for several days.
- Secure any hazardous materials or equipment before leaving.
- Follow directions given by evacuation wardens.
- Go to Evacuation Assembly Point (EAP) which is located outside the third floor exit opposite the Academic Services Lobby.
- Report to your Evacuation Warden (identified by his/her stylish florescent yellow vest) and do not leave the area until authorized. Notify emergency services if anyone is trapped or injured inside.
- Assist persons with disabilities. (see guidelines for evacuation options).
Evacuation Wardens Will:
- Ensure that the floor and stairwells are clear and that all office doors are closed.
- Make note and notify Fire Safety Director when exiting building if someone is unable to leave.
- Tell FSD that the floor is clear and note any holdouts or people sheltering in place.
- Wait for all clear – both audible alarm and strobe lighting will stop.
