New Staff Orientation
Welcome to BNHS! Please read below to get a feel for items to do when you first start.
With Supervisor or Team – first week
- Confirm hiring info
- Determine schedule
- Identify workstation, get supplies, locate secure location for valuables
- Meet PI and team-members
- Set up voice mail.
- Take tour of dept/school/bldg, find places to eat
- Get copy code/learn copier
- Work out computer and printing, get network login
- Get job description, meet with supervisor to go over job.
- Understand priorities, relationships, level of autonomy, scope of authority.
- Start credentialing if necessary.
- Identify nearest exit and learn evacuation procedures
- Get home phone numbers of supervisor/team
- Get copies of dept phone/email list
With Dept Staff, Administrator or Do Individually
First Week
- Get familiar with which dept staff handle which areas and meet them.
- Work out:
- payroll forms,
- mailbox,
- bldg access card,
- keys,
- bldg ID,
- UWATs (long distance authorization),
- email list,
- get on OWLS,
- schedule HIPAA training,
- get picture taken for bulletin board,
- get needed authorizations (Secur ID, EProcurement, SAGE, Financial Desktop, ERA Commons are some examples)
- Do UW New Employee Orientation (if new to UW). Here they can also sign up for a Benefits Orientation and a Husky Card. They can also register for the mandatory Prevention of Sexual Harassment briefing .
- Schedule benefits and sexual harassment briefings
- Get UW NetID set up (if new to UW). Once you have your UW NetID, you may;
- Get UW email set up (if new to UW)
- Set up/confirm ESS info and UW directory info from MyUW
- Set up direct deposit from MyUW (optional)
- Get a parking pass or UPASS (optional)
Within First 3 Weeks
- Submit benefits forms
- Schedule "Fall Thru Cracks" meeting with administrator
- Identify training needed and sign up for classes
- Network with other staff on procedures and dept practices
- Pick up first paycheck from payroll coordinator (paydays are 10th and 25th of each month)
- Join union (if your position is in the union)
