Bar Codes

All outgoing mail needs a barcode (department or grant as appropriate) and a contact name.  This applies to all letters, packages and express mail sent from the dept. Use 75-6060 barcodes for dept business.  Grants can order free barcodes at the UW website.

BNHS Mail Pickup/Delivery

Mail will be taken to the SON 3rd floor mailboxes in late morning and mid-afternoon only.  If you want items mailed earlier in the day, you can take them to the 3rd floor.  If you want items mailed later, take them by 4pm to the mailbox in the S1 parking lot (above ground), or hospital mailroom.  Incoming mail will be distributed morning and afternoon on most days but occasionally only once if staff are out.

Express Mail

  • Using a Budget Number: To send something via express mail, use UPS (the current UW contract).  Follow the directions posted in mailroom (to the left of the blank mail forms under the mailboxes).  Take it to the E Court UPS drop box by 4:30pm, or request department staff help to schedule a pickup no later than 2 pm. When you fill out the UPS slip, write your grant's budget number in the UPS account number field.
  • Do Not Send Express Mail Without a Budget Number
  • Creating a UPS Account: You can also go to the UPS website and create a profile. This will enable you to create shipment labels, schedule pickups, and track packages as well as keep track of your previous shipments. When you create a shipment enter BNHS's account number, F 65304 in the Reference # 1 field and your budget number in the Reference # 2 field.

Express Mail Late Dropoff

Two options are located north of Boeing Field.  Both take Procard or credit cards (but not UW budget numbers), and have packing materials available.

  • UPS, 4455 7th Ave S. (open till 6:15pm).  Directions:  go south on I-5. Use the collector distributor lane in downtown Sea, then take the Airport Way S exit. Continue south a couple of miles to Snoqualmie, turn right, then right at 7th.
  • FEDEX, 4700 Airport Way S. (open till 6pm).  Same directions as UPS, but don't turn at Snoqualmie, stay on Airport Way one more block.

Express Mail Pickup

Ground UPS or large 1st or 2nd day air require UPS to pickup.  The department staff can assist you with requesting a pickup (request help no later than 2 pm).

Mail Forwarding

If you want your mail forwarded over the summer or upon leaving BNHS, send an email to Toe Moe, moet@u.washington.edu telling her dates and forwarding address.  This is only for a period of 3 weeks or longer, and mail will be forwarded once every 2 weeks. Flyers/advertisements/publications will not be forwarded.

Mailboxes

To get a mailbox in the workroom (Rm. T-603), please contact Toni Moe.  Mailboxes are normally provided for faculty and permanent staff.

Personal Mail/Bulk Mail

These cannot go out in our department/school distribution.  Take personal mail to the US mailbox on Pacific Street (late pm pickup).  Take bulk mail (more than a few pieces or oversized) to the hospital mailroom past the cafeteria. Please see the UW Mailing Services website for more information on mailing policies.
