Biobehavioral Nursing Research
Pre and
Post Doctoral Training Program
Post Doc Information and sequence of training
Postdoctoral trainees are nurses holding doctoral degrees
who have varying backgrounds in biobehavioral research.
Each Postdoctoral trainee will hold a two year fellowship,direct
experience in ongoing research, and develop a base from which
to conduct an independent project.
The goal of postdoctoral training is to achieve competence
in biobehavioral nursing research sufficient to launch an
independent research career.
Progression and Training.
Each postdoctoral scholar will have a mentor from among the
core or supporting faculty with whom he or she will work closely
to design an individualized program of training.
- Fellows may wish intensive experience with a new methodology
or population.
- Fellows may also seek to develop foundational skills and
knowledge and will elect considerable course work in both
basic biomedical and nursing sciences.
- All Fellows are expected to participate in their first
year in the specialized offerings and seminars of the training
program.
- During both years, fellows will participate in ongoing
program seminars for discussion of their work and proposals.
- Postdoctoral fellows willparticipate on the research team
of the core and supporting faculty, design and conduct a
small-scale study related to that team with guidance from
a faculty mentor.
- Typical progression through postdoctoral work will include:
- Assessment of the dissertation research and refinement
or direction based on that work;
- Design of a series of studies, at least one of which
is pilot-tested during the funding period;
- Publication of research results;
- Production of a research proposal for extramural funding,
with critiques from members of the Biobehavioral Nursing
Research Training Program, as well as other relevant
disciplines,
- Collaboration and possible publication with one or
more faculty in their ongoing research;
- Participation in peer review
