Clinical Preceptor of the Year: Marilee Murphy Jensen, MN, ARNP
Marilee Murphy Jensen has been a preceptor for nurse practitioner students across multiple pathways since 1991, and since the spring of 2000 has had a student, sometimes two, every quarter. She began precepting because she wanted to "give something back" to the University in appreciation for what she had received during her education, and because she wanted to share the rich clinical environment that she works in with students. She enjoys working with students, guiding them while also encouraging them to think on their own, and watching their confidence grow along with their abilities.
In addition to her busy clinical practice in General Internal
Medicine at the UW Roosevelt Clinic, Jensen is a lecturer in
the School of Nursing, teaching primarily in the Adult
and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner pathway. She lectures
in the nurse practitioner courses, leads clinical seminars,
and evaluates students in their clinical settings in the community.
She has spent time in Thailand working with nurses in small
villages, and as an NP for a group of trekkers in Nepal.
