Thai and UW Nursing Schools Enjoy Many Happy Returns
Two nursing deans from Chiang Mai University School of Nursing in Thailand met with faculty and administrators and sampled American culture during a five-day visit to the School of Nursing this summer. The UW and Chiang Mai schools of nursing have enjoyed an active international exchange program since 1996 and even earlier, serving as a model for other schools at the UW. Seven nursing faculty from the UW have taught courses at Chiang Mai University, taking with them both undergraduate and graduate nursing students who study with Thai nursing faculty. Nine students from Chiang Mai have studied at the UW or are currently enrolled.
Visitors to both countries are provided with outstanding hospitality
that immerses them in the local culture. The Thai guests enjoyed
a reception at the home of School of Nursing Dean Nancy
F. Woods, as well as an informal outdoor dinner at the home
of Associate Professor Basia
Belza, who introduced them to roasted marshmallows. In support
of the seven years of successful collaboration with Chiang Mai
School of Nursing, former UW President Richard McCormick visited
Chiang Mai University during a trip to Thailand this year.
