New Faculty Join the School of Nursing

Look for a lot of new faces around the School for the 2001-02 academic year. The Department of Family and Child Nursing has added ten new faculty to its ranks, including Professor Susan Spieker, Ph.D., a leading researcher on early caregiving experiences; Assistant Professor Mona Lydon-Rochelle '99 Ph.D., whose research on vaginal birth following caesarian section recently appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine; Assistant Professor Donna Weston '65 MN, Ph.D., a developmental psychologist and director of the new graduate certificate program in infant mental health; Assistant Professor JoAnne Solchany '00 Ph.D., a faculty member in the new infant mental health graduate certificate program and author of Promoting Maternal Mental Health During Pregnancy; Assistant Professor Mayumi Willgerodt, Ph.D., who is studying conflicts in multigenerational immigrant families; Research Assistant Professor Sybil Carrere, Ph.D., whose studies focus on family relationships and chronic stress; Assistant Professor Eunjung Kim, Ph.D., whose research focus is Korean American parenting and adolescent mental health; Assistant Professor Susan Labyak, Ph.D.,whose research specialty is rheumatoid arthritis and sleep in children; Professor and Vice-Chair of Family and Child Nursing Cathryn Booth, Ph.D., an expert on social-emotional development, child care, attachment, peer relations and parenting; Research Associate Professor Nazli Baydar, Ph.D., from Istanbul, who has studied the issues of race gap and income disparities on cognitive and behavioral functioning in children; lecturer and licensed psychologist Marian Birch, Ph.D., an expert in relationship therapy with children and adults, and clinical coordinator for the new graduate certificate program in infant mental health; and lecturers Kathryn Honnold '00 MN,ARNP and Margaret Buxton, MSN. The Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems has also added four new faculty. They are Assistant Professor David Keepnews, J.D., Ph.C., an expert on health policy and care systems; Associate Professor Donna Berry, who studies human responses to cancer; Associate Professor Brenda Zierler, whose work focuses on care delivery systems and patient outcomes; Associate Professor Monica Jarrett, who is studying GI disorders in women and men; and Associate Professor Sarah Shannon, whose area of scholarship is health care ethics. New lecturers are Theresa Barenz '01 MN; Cheri Gail '99 MN; Vicky Hertig, Ph.C.; and Lynda Hillman '01 M/MA.
