New Alums First de Tornyay Award Recipients

Sara Anne Manley, Martin Rayment and Nora Jane Gant, who will receive their BSN degrees in June, have been selected as the first de Tornyay Center on Healthy Aging Undergraduate Nursing Research Scholarship Award recipients. The awards provide financial support to undergraduate students interested in research on healthy aging. They are also meant to facilitate a close working relationship between an undergraduate nursing student and a faculty member. Students are encouraged to examine questions related to current studies or to develop their own projects under faculty mentorship. The students’ projects focus on sleep patterns in older adults with heart failure; caregiver perceptions of older adults with dementia; and older adult utilization of health care resources. The de Tornyay Center on Healthy Aging honors Dean Emeritus Rheba de Tornyay, a vigilant supporter of quality undergraduate education under whose leadership the School was first ranked the #1 school of nursing in the country in 1984.
