Voices from the New "Wonder Years": Life After "Retirement"

Mary Jones, MS
Assistant Professor Emeritus of Psychosocial and Community Health

Coordinated the School's occupational health program, including research needs and development of public health nursing courses

"If I didn't leave my house every day, I think I would get depressed. I go to aerobics three times a week and volunteer in a thrift shop two mornings each week. I also volunteer at the tourist bureau in downtown Seattle once a week, answering phones and talking with tourists. I belong to two book review groups, attend AAUW meetings once a month, and have been on the Salvation Army Board for the William Booth Center, where I help do physicals on alcoholic men who come in. I'm also active in the UW retirement association. Recently I signed up for a creative writing class, and I'm learning to use the computer. I am a '43 graduate of the BSN program and our class has a reunion every year. I've noticed that I walk better than all the others, and think it must be the aerobics."
