Susan Grant Named Assistant Dean for Clinical Nursing Practice
Susan Grant, senior associate administrator for Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer of University of Washington Medical Center, has been appointed as an assistant dean for clinical nursing practice in the UW School of Nursing.
"Susan Grant's appointment reflects
the importance of the School of Nursing's
relationship with the world of practice,"
said Nancy Woods, dean of the School
of Nursing. "As the nurse executive of the
nation 's first Magnet hospital, she leads
a highly complex system of care where
her direct influence shapes nursing care
for patients with very complex and
challenging health problems."
As assistant dean, Grant will advise
the School of Nursing leadership regarding
emerging issues and trends in nursing
practice and pursue
collaborative ventures
between UW
Medical Center and
the nursing school.
"Susan's window
on the world provides
us with a
unique perspective
from which to view
the rapidly changing
nature of acute care nursing practice
as well as the primary care provided by
advanced practice nurses in an academic
health center," Wo ods said. "As part of
an academic health center, the School of
Nursing is uniquely positioned to educate
our students in the current nursing practice
and our faculty to collaborate with
practitioners at UW Medical Center and
in its outpatient clinics."
Grant joined UW Medical Center in
2000 from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
in Boston, where she served as chief of
nursing and patient care services. She
worked previously in nursing positions
in Georgia and South Carolina. She has
a bachelor's degree in nursing from the
Medical College of Georgia and a master's
degree in nursing from the University
of South Carolina.
"This appointment formalizes the
relationship UW Medical Center has
with the School of Nursing as partners
in our continuous efforts to improve nursing
education and practice." Grant said.
"I am excited about this relationship
because our work together over the last
few years is making a difference in the
future of nursing in our community."
