Kang Honored as Asian American Living Pioneer

Rebecca Kang, Associate Professor of Psychosocial and Community Health, will receive one of eight Asian American Living Pioneer awards on Oct. 11. The awards, presented by the Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation, recognize people in Washington state who not only have made outstanding contributions to their field but were also among the first Asian Americans to do so.

This year's awards recognize outstanding Asian Americans for their pioneering roles in medical care and research. The foundation is honoring Kang for her "important research on parent-child interaction between Hawaiian and Korean mothers and infants" and her "considerable expertise in parent-child intervention programs and protocols."

Both the Northwest Asian Weekly and the Seattle Chinese Post newspapers will feature stories about Kang.

Kang received her Ph.D. from the School of Nursing in 1985.
