RDP Instructions

Steps 1 & 2 are done at UW, Step 3 at home!

Step 1. Turn on RDP on your office computer running XP Professional

  • Start
  • Settings
  • Control Panel
  • System
  • Remote Tab
  • Enable Checkbox "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer"
  • Apply/OK

Step 2. Write down your IP Address

  • Currently your IP address is: 38.107.191.103
  • Important note 1 : You must be viewing this page from your office computer. If you are at home, it will display your home IP address and you will end up trying to connect to the wrong computer.
  • Important note 2 : This IP address can change without warning! Generally it will stay the same, however if you have your office computer worked on, or leave it turned off for an extended period, there is a chance that your computer will be assigned a new IP address. You will not be able to figure out this new address from home, so if you are planning on going home to work and want to play it safe, visit this page to make sure your IP address is still the same!

Step 3. Go home and connect

Windows XP

  • Start
  • Programs
  • Accessories
  • Communications
  • Remote Desktop Connection
  • Enter the IP address
  • Connect

Non-XP Users will need to download a RDP client
