Network Help: Creating a Strong Password
The following is a description of what comprises a strong password:
- Passwords must be at least seven (7) characters long.
- Passwords must contain characters from at least three (3)
of the following four (4) classes
- English upper case letters (A, B, C, … Z)
- English lower case letters (a, b, c, … z)
- Westernized Arabic numerals (0, 1, 2, …9)
Non-alphanumeric characters such as punctuation symbols
Passwords may not contain your user name or any part of your
full name
An example of appropriate passwords would be: &9Tol2pH; gy7$4Tme;
etc.

Changing your School of Nursing Password (Windows
2000/XP)*
First, think of a new Strong Password as outlined above. Then:
1. Log ino Windows 2000.
2. Once you have successfully logged in, press
CTRL+ALT+Delete.
3. Click on the Change Password option.
Notice that your Username (e.g., sjones) and Domain (SON) are
filled in for you.
4. In the Old Password field, enter your
old password.
5. In the New Password field, enter your
new password using at least three of the four character types
listed above. This new password must be at least eight (8) characters
long and the character string Must Contain at least three (3)
of these four (4) character types:
a. uppercase letters
b. lowercase letters
c. numerals
d. nonalphanumeric characters (e.g. *; &; $; #)
An example of appropriate passwords would be: &9Tol2pH;
gy7$4Tme; etc.
6. In the Confirm New Password field, again type
your new password. This step verifies that you typed the password
correctly.
7. When you are finished, click on OK. You will
return to your Windows desktop.
