The Beginning
Settlement began in South Park in the later 19th Century. Erection of the Community Center and its park in 1913 provided a focus to the largely agricultural settlement. An older resident remembers Italian, Japanese, and Filipino farmers on the hills behind the neighborhood. After World War II, South Park began to take on its current mixed residential and industrial character.
