Eastern State Hospital

Eastern State Hospital is located in Medical Lake, Washington.  The partnership aims to enhance nursing care in this psychiatric hospital by offering workshops graduate level courses to encourage career development and job satisfaction for state hospital nurses.



The Project Manager advises hospital nurses on opportunities for career advancement, e.g., through certification, and obtaining BSN and MSN degrees.



Western State Hospital


Western State Hospital is located in Steilacoom, Washington. Steilacoom is located at the former Fort Steilacoom, in the southwest corner of Tacoma, WA. This picturesque setting near the water still has many of the original buildings from the days when it was a functional fort.



The Public Sector Project promotes professional staff development in this psychiatric facility by offering workshops, courses, and support for research. The goal of the project is to encourage career development and promote job satisfaction for state hospital nurses.

University of Washington

The University of Washington is located in Seattle, Washington. The University, established as a Territorial University in 1861, is located directly north of downtown Seattle. The School of Nursing is located in the Health Sciences Building on the south edge of campus. This building is close to the Montlake Cut, a canal that connects Lake Washington with Lake Union.

The University provides the necessary personnel, materials and services to reach the goals of the project agreement with Eastern and Western State Hospitals. Personnel in the School of Nursing plan the workshops and graduate courses offered to the staff at the hospitals. They provide leadership and support for research endeavors, advise nurses about career advancement, plan conferences and provide consultation to the hospitals. The University is responsible for keeping records for the Public Sector Project and for publishing a report of project activities. The University of Washington also manages the budget for the grant.
